Max Verstappen won a rain-affected Sprint at the 2026 FIA Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix at Marina Bay Street Circuit, crossing the line 2.591 seconds ahead of Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton after a chaotic 20-lap race that produced eight retirements, including a first-lap crash by race leader George Russell and a final-lap collision between McLaren team-mates Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris.

Charles Leclerc completed the podium for Ferrari, holding off Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli by just 0.367 seconds despite struggling with deteriorating intermediate tyres in the closing stages. Antonelli, the championship leader, finished fourth, with Liam Lawson fifth for Racing Bulls, Oliver Bearman sixth for Haas, and Nico Hülkenberg seventh for Audi.

Heavy rain swept across Marina Bay shortly before the scheduled start, leaving standing water at Turns 2 and 3 and forcing a 30-minute delay. The field completed two formation laps before starting on intermediate tyres.

Russell made a stronger getaway than polesitter Verstappen and led into Turn 1, with Hamilton climbing from sixth to third. The race turned on its head at the end of lap one when Russell lost control over the kerb exiting the final corner and crashed into the inside barrier. In the same sequence of incidents, Lance Stroll and Sergio Pérez collided at Turn 16, eliminating both drivers, while Red Bull’s Isack Hadjar retired with an engine-braking problem. A Safety Car was deployed for five laps to recover the stranded cars.

When racing resumed, Verstappen controlled the restart ahead of Hamilton and Leclerc. The Red Bull driver gradually extended his lead as the circuit dried and tyre management became critical, opening a three-second gap by lap 13 and stretching it to five seconds three laps later. Hamilton had initially kept within 1.4 seconds of Verstappen through lap 11 but could not sustain the challenge.

The race’s final drama unfolded on the last lap when Norris attempted to pass Piastri at Turn 5. The McLaren pair made contact and spun, dropping Norris to eighth and leaving Piastri classified 14th after failing to complete the final lap. Their collision handed Antonelli fourth place.

Earlier in the race, Alpine’s Franco Colapinto retired with a technical problem during the Safety Car period, while a separate three-car collision involving Alexander Albon, Gabriel Bortoleto, and Valtteri Bottas added to the attrition. Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon completed the top 10, followed by Fernando Alonso, Carlos Sainz, and Arvid Lindblad.
