McLaren arrives at Singapore’s Marina Bay Street Circuit targeting points on two fronts, with the 2026 season’s sixth and final Sprint race coinciding with Formula 1’s first floodlit event of the year.
The Singapore Grand Prix marks a milestone in the 2026 calendar as the first night race for the sport’s latest generation of cars. Lower track temperatures under floodlights are expected to influence tyre behaviour, presenting teams with a new variable to manage alongside Marina Bay’s characteristically tight 90-degree corners and unforgiving concrete barriers.
Norris enters the weekend with a perfect Sprint scoring record, having collected points in all five previous Sprint races this season. His results include a win in Miami, second in Canada, and third-place finishes at both Silverstone and Zandvoort. Piastri has also scored in every Sprint, with his best result a second place in Miami — a race in which McLaren secured their first 1-2 finish of the season.
The team acknowledges that the past two race weekends have been difficult, and has used the short turnaround to analyse data and identify performance gains. McLaren cited the Madrid race as a recent high-water mark, where Norris was on course for victory before a single incident ended his challenge.
Singapore has historically been a strong venue for the Papaya squad. Norris won from pole in 2024, and neither he nor Piastri has finished outside the top seven at Marina Bay in recent seasons. Last season, the pair finished third and fourth respectively — results that clinched McLaren’s second consecutive Constructors’ Championship and their 10th title overall. Lewis Hamilton gave McLaren their first Singapore victory in 2009.
The Singapore Sprint is the final such event of the 2026 season. Following Marina Bay, the night-race calendar continues with Las Vegas, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi.
