Reigning MotoGP champion Marc Márquez and tennis icon Novak Djokovic headlined a star-studded Barcelona Catalunya Grand Prix weekend, with both sporting legends visiting the Audi Revolut F1 Team garage at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya during Round 7 of the 2026 FIA Formula One World Championship.
Márquez, a nine-time world champion across motorcycle racing’s premier class, visited the paddock on Friday, met the Audi team and climbed into the cockpit of the Audi R26. Djokovic, one of the most decorated champions in tennis history, joined Audi drivers Gabriel Bortoleto and Nico Hulkenberg for a garage tour and a closer look at race weekend operations. The Audi team described the visits as a convergence of “different disciplines” united by “the same fascination with performance, precision and speed.”
Djokovic’s presence extended beyond the garage. The tennis great waved the chequered flag at the conclusion of the 66-lap race, capping a weekend that blended elite sport and Formula 1 spectacle.
On track, Visa Cash App Racing Bulls delivered another strong result, securing back-to-back double points finishes after their Monaco success. Liam Lawson qualified eighth and Arvid Lindblad narrowly missed Q3, starting 11th. Lindblad gained two positions on the opening lap to slot in behind his teammate, and the pair ran in close formation through the early stages.
The race was shaped by two Virtual Safety Car periods. The first came on Lap 41 when Fernando Alonso stopped on track, allowing rivals on alternate strategies to make cheaper pit stops. A second VSC on Lap 63 for Kimi Antonelli meant the Racing Bulls pair simply needed to bring their cars home. Lawson finished eighth and Lindblad ninth, matching their qualifying positions from Friday practice.
Lawson acknowledged the challenges despite the points haul. “It was a difficult race today. We came into it expecting to be more competitive, but unfortunately we struggled for pace compared to the cars around us,” he said. “We were also unlucky with the VSC, which allowed Gasly to pit and come out ahead of us, making our race even more challenging. We’ll go away, review everything and look at what we could have done better to maximise the result.”
Lindblad struck a more optimistic tone. “Overall, we had a decent day, and it’s a good result for the team to get both cars in the points once again after Monaco,” he said. “We were fast during the second and third stints, but coming from so far back meant that it was more of a catch-up game opposed to really being able to utilise our pace to gain positions.”
Lindblad added that the team’s competitiveness at a traditional high-speed circuit bodes well for the races ahead. “After the last few weekends where we raced in unique circuits, it’s been nice to show strong pace also here in Barcelona, which is more of a standard high-speed track. Hopefully, this means the car will be well-suited for upcoming tracks, starting with getting back to racing at the Red Bull Ring.”
The Formula 1 paddock now heads to Spielberg, Austria, for the Lenovo Austrian Grand Prix from June 26-28 as the European leg of the season continues.
