Racing Bulls secured a championship point at the inaugural Madrid street circuit race, with Arvid finishing ninth and Yuki Tsunoda 14th in Round 14 of the FIA Formula One World Championship at the MADRING.
Arvid qualified seventh on the grid after reaching Q3 for the seventh consecutive time, setting a lap time just over a second off pole position, which was claimed by Lando Norris in the McLaren. Tsunoda qualified 15th after being eliminated in Q2. Track temperatures exceeded 50 degrees Celsius across the weekend, adding a significant tyre management dimension to the race.
The team split strategies at the start of the 57-lap race, with Arvid on Medium tyres and Tsunoda on Hards, allowing Racing Bulls to stagger pit windows and respond to changing conditions. Arvid gained a position on the opening lap and was running eighth by Lap 6. Tsunoda, meanwhile, collected damage in a Turn 1 incident and spent much of the race battling Audi and Williams machinery.
A Virtual Safety Car was deployed on Lap 15 after Lance Stroll’s Aston Martin stopped at Turn 20. Racing Bulls used the opportunity to pit Arvid for a fresh set of Hard tyres, while Tsunoda stayed out to preserve track position, running 14th at that stage. Tsunoda made his sole pit stop on Lap 38, switching to Medium tyres to cover the final 19 laps.
Arvid dropped to 10th on Lap 44 when Oscar Piastri charged through, but recovered the position when Pierre Gasly pitted on Lap 56, allowing him to cross the line ninth and collect two championship points. Tsunoda finished 14th.
“Not an easy race, but good to score points,” Arvid said over team radio during his cooldown lap. “Thank you for the work everyone, we’ll keep going step by step.”
Liam Lawson continued to deputise for the injured Isack Hadjar at sister team Oracle Red Bull Racing for the third consecutive race. Racing Bulls next compete at the Formula 1 Qatar Airways Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku, scheduled for Sept. 24-26.
